Under his leadership, the team has dropped from sixth to twentieth place in the Championship standings after winning just two of their
previous 15 games. The former England captain has not been pleased with this decline.

In a statement, Rooney stated, “I recognise that football has not been at the level I wanted it to be. Football is a results business.”
“However, time is the most precious commodity a manager requires and I do not believe 13 weeks was sufficient to oversee the changes
that were needed.”I think it will take some time to go beyond this disappointment. Since I was sixteen years old, I have been involved in
professional football, either as a manager or as a player. I’m going to spend some time with my family right now while I get ready for my next managerial chance.”
