Overview: The Steelers managed to win a bunch of close games and qualify for the playoffs in 2023 despite not having a fantastic or very
outstanding roster. And in the wild-card round, they played close against Buffalo, the second-seeded team, despite coming into the
postseason as the seventh and last seed in the AFC.
At quarterback, Pittsburgh was never really satisfied with their options. 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett was mostly unproductive
until suffering an ankle injury in Week 13, and even when healthy, he was unable to hold down a starting position. In order to put an end
to the Pickett Era, Pittsburgh traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for two 2025 seventh-round picks and a third-round pick in 2024.
Although he had his moments as a backup quarterback, Mason Rudolph didn’t exactly appear like a franchise quarterback. According to
NFL Network, this is the reason the Steelers are taking a chance on Russell Wilson and signing him to a one-year contract. Rudolph,
meanwhile, is heading to the Tennessee Titans for a one-year contract. This summer, the Steelers created one of the most intriguing
quarterback depth charts in the NFL with their rumored trade for Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears.
As long as Mike Tomlin is managing the Steelers, they are in excellent hands. In his 17 years as head coach of the Steelers, he has yet to
have a losing season.
Who is present or absent? The Steelers’ most significant early acquisition after Russell Wilson was the agreement to sign former Baltimore
standout linebacker Patrick Queen to a rumored $41 million, three-year contract. Although Pittsburgh doesn’t have many important
players entering free agency, Wallace’s possible departure highlights their cornerbacks’ room and the skill they need to acquire. In a trade
with the Panthers that sent wide receiver Diontae Johnson to Carolina, the Steelers allegedly acquired cornerback Donte Jackson.
Regarding Rudolph, he started Pittsburgh’s postseason game and had a strong last regular season, but he is moving to Tennessee.
